WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL TESTING?

A functional lab testing is typically only used by integrative practitioners to provide intricate information about a variety of systems including metabolic, nutritional, endocrine, hormonal, immune, gastrointestinal, genetic, detoxification and the list goes on…

Your gut microbiome communicates with your entire body via the gut-brain axis, which directly influences your weight, mood, and overall health. How exactly do these microbes influence your body?

Scientists have found that the line of communication between your immune system, skin, and brain is mediated through your microbes, ultimately influencing:

  • Inflammation – The underlying cause of most disease.

  • Oxidative stress – A major cause of inflammation.

  • Tissue lipid levels – A factor important for a healthy metabolism.

  • Glycemic control – Your ability to balance blood sugar.

  • Neuropeptide levels – A factor linked to your mood, pain tolerance, and body’s homeostasis (balance).

  • Pathogenic bacteria – Bad bacteria that makes you sick or cause conditions.

  • Mood

  • regulating neurotransmitters – For example, about 90% of your serotonin (your happy neurotransmitter) is made by your gut microbiome.

Are you surprised to see mood regulation on the list? This is because your gut conditions are strongly associated with depression and anxiety. Not only can extra weight be altering your moods because of its outward appearance, that is actually affecting how you feel from within – via your gut microbiome.3

Because health literally begins from the inside out.

Hair Mineral Analysis (HMA) - Member Price $300 USD Non-member $500 USD

Human hair and nails have been found to be meaningful and representative tissues for biological monitoring for nutritional mineral deficiencies and heavy metal intoxications. A HMA provides the basis for a nutritional balancing program to establish and maintain optimal levels of wellness. By correcting tissue mineral levels and ratios with proper diet, supplementary nutrients and lifestyle modifications, many physical and behavioral health conditions can be prevented or reversed.

Elevated readings can have different meanings depending upon:

1. The symptomatology of the patient

2. The elevated concentration of the mineral in question

3. Whether a specific treatment, regimen or diet is being followed

4. Relationships to other elemental readings Toxic metal screening includes lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, nickel, and aluminium.

Food Intolerance Test - Member Price $425 USD Non-member $625 USD

There is growing evidence that food-specific IgG antibodies can be linked to many chronic health conditions. It can be normal for our bodies’ defense system to produce some levels of IgG antibodies to specific foods and combine with the proteins of these foods to form complexes, cross the intestinal wall and enter the bloodstream. When the immune system is working well, these complexes are removed by macrophages. But if there is an overload or a poor immune system, these complexes can circulate in the bloodstream and deposit in different tissues, leading to inflammation.

The diseases and conditions that have been linked to raised levels of food IgG antibodies:

  • Irritable bowel syndrome

  • Inflammatory conditions, arthritis

  • Migraines, headaches

  • Asthma, respiratory

  • Bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea

  • Tiredness, not feeling well

  • Rashes, eczema

  • Obesity

It can be very difficult to identify the food(s) that are linked to the symptoms because IgG food sensitivities are typically a delayed reaction and may not appear for days, making it hard to identify the foods. Elimination diets are based on guesswork and can take a lot longer to determine which foods are causing the issue.

Organic Acid Test (OAT) - Member $469.00 usd Non Member $669.00 usd

Comprehensive metabolic snapshot of your overall health with 76 markers.  It provides an accurate evaluation of intestinal yeast and bacteria that in high levels can cause or worsen behavior disorders, hyperactivity, movement disorders, fatigue and immune function. The cause of these high levels could include oral antibiotic use, high sugar diets, immune deficiencies, acquired infections, as well as genetic factors. The test also includes markers for vitamin and mineral levels, oxidative stress, neurotransmitter levels, and is the only OAT to include markers for oxalates, which are highly correlated with many chronic illnesses.
